MCPF Penang demonstrated its support in the fight against corruption when a strong contingent attended a half day Town Hall Event on “Awareness of Corruption as a Crime” organized by Crime Consciousness & Public Safety Society (CCPSS) in collaboration with SPRM (Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia) P. Pinang (MACC Penang) at the Wembley St. Giles Hotel, George Town, Penang on 20th December 2022. The program included an address by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Mohamad Anil Shah (Chairman, CCPSS); presentation by Y.Brs. Tuan Mazlan bin Haja Maiden (Penolong Pengkuasa, SPRM P. Pinang); Q&A; Oath Taking and Declaration on Anti-Corruption by all attendees. MCPF Penang was represented by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ong Poh Eng (Chairman), JM Tan (Secretary); Harikumar Katherasen (Treasurer); Felix Chuah Gim Chuan (Timur Laut DLC Chairman); James Mohan (Barat Daya DLC Chairman); Paramaguru Balan Moghan (SPS DLC Chairman); Ridzuan Md Zain (SPT DLC Chairman); Munusamy Muniandy (SPU DLC Chairman) and Y.Bhg. Dato’ M. Kaleessvaran (Committee Member). In summary, the attendees were reminded that Corruption is a Crime; Corruption is ‘pandemic like’ and damages the economy; needs overcoming through enforcement, integrity emphasis, practicing what is preached and encouraging ‘reporting of corruption’. Key takeaway was the Four Main Corruption practices i.e. Asking for and Receiving Bribes; Offering and Accepting Bribes; Making False Claims; and, Using Rank and Positions to demand for Personal Gains.
