
MCPF Penang is saddened by the passing of its former Deputy Chairman YBhg. Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, Malaysia’s youngest and longest serving IGP (8th June 1974 till 15th January 1994) on 20th April 2024 at the age of 85. In his nearly 2 decades of dedicated service as IGP, the late Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar had served 5 Malaysian monarchs. Former MCPF Malaysia Senior Vice-Chairman and stalwart YBhg. Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye reflected on Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar’s role in inviting him to establish the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation in 1883. Thus, MCPF’s history in the annals of being an unique NGO in Crime Prevention Awareness had fulfilled Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar’s aim to foster cooperation between the police and the community in combating crime – a partnership positively impacted by the profound impact of Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar’s on law enforcement, guided by his dedication to community policing, unwavering commitment to the well-being of the Malaysian society, intellectualism and knowledge. MCPF’s facilitation of various programs aimed at educating communities on crime prevention and strengthening ties between law enforcement and citizens has undoubtedly stemmed from the late Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar’s visionary leadership.
