MCPF Penang attends Centre for Policy Research (CPR-USM) Public Lecture at CPR Meeting Room

A Public Lecture Program – “Finally, The End of History” successfully organized by the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), Universiti Sains Malaysia was held on Tuesday, 7th July 2026 9:30 am till 11:45 am at the CPR, USM Meeting Room.

This Public Lecture was delivered eloquently by YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Munir Majid, Chairman of CARI ASEAN Research And Advocacy & President, Asean Business Club / Honorary Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Distinguished Economist, Corporate Leader and Public Intellectual. The Session was Moderated by Assoc. Professor Dr. Mohammad Reevany Bustami.
This lecture is based on the literary works of Francis Fukuyama covering Governance, Democratisation, and International Political Economy.

In his lecture Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Munir Majid covered various Democracy Models expounded by Francis Fukuyama in his trailblazing 1992 best seller “Finally, The End of History and The Last Man”. He touched on contemporary global Challenges, Crises, Controversies and Catastrophies in Europe, the Middle East, Asia / ASEAN, America and the Global South. The time frame referenced coincided with the end of the Cold War, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, through the Asian Financial Crisis (1998), Western Financial Crisis (2008) and ongoing wars in the Middle East / Russia-Ukraine, and the China v US issues, competitive playground of Economics, Politics, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. He concluded by tabling the stance, roles and influence that ASEAN could lead in.

His Public Lecture left the 80+ crowd of Academicians, USM students, participating NGO representatives and other distinguished Invitees to self-reflect their current roles, socio norms, leadership engagement, knowledge, historical perspectives and the aspects of justice, morality and humanity from deeper and wider spectrums.
