MCPF EXCO Member YBhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran (also MCPF Penang Deputy Chairman) and MCPF Penang Secretary Johnny Michael Tan (representing MCPF Penang Chairman YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng was in attendance at the MCPF EXCO Meeting (No. 1/2024-2026) held at Ballroom 2, Level 9, Hotel Sunway Putra, Kuala Lumpur on 7th March 2024. The Welcome and Keynote address was delivered by YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, MCPF Chairman. YBhg. Datuk Haji Ruji bin Haji Ubi, Ketua Setiausaha KDN (ex-officio) and YBhg. Dato’ Sri Dr. King Lim Chin Fui, Vice-Chairman MCPF was in attendance. A key feature of this MCPF EXCO Meeting was a SCAM Crime Briefing by YBhg. Dato’ Marzunisham Omar, Deputy Governor, Bank Negara Malaysia.

The Major topic of deliberation was on SCAMs, Cybercrimes and challenges involving victims, Bank Negara Malaysia/ Financial Institutions / Banks, MCMC and NSRC 997. With Digital Banking and Artificial Intelligence, authorities, institutions and general public will face huge challenges not just within Malaysia. It is a Global Challenge. YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution called upon all parties involved to work seamlessly and break the silo mentality. Legal and Regulatory Acts have to be brought up to speed. The BSN Deputy Governor outlined the strategic importance of Prevention Awareness & Education and Enforcement. He shared primary phishing and malware trends between Oct 2022 and Jan 2024. Current main SCAM Victims are aged between 26-55 years old. He also shared 6 Major countermeasures and other initiatives being pursued as well as key Safe Banking that needs refining. Major Password / PIN numbers / lack of Transactional cautiousness / lack of Password change discipline were also highlighted. The Official (Marching) Theme Song of MCPF was also selected and approved by all present.
