
Penang State Hindu Temples discussion was held at Dewan Karu Mariamman Temple, Seberang Jaya, Praise, Pulau Pinang on 13th October 2024. The Attendees included 1. YB RSN Rayer, Chairman, Hindu Endowment Board, Penang (Special Guest); 2. Mr. Tangga Ganeson, National Chairman, Malaysian Hindu Sangam; 3. YBhg. Datuk Thinagaran, Head of MIC, Pulau Pinang; 4. Mr. Tharman, Chairman, Malaysian Hindu Sangam, Penang; 5. ACP Poobathy, Deputy Head of Special Branch, PDRM, Penang; 5. YBhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran, Deputy Chairman, MCPF Penang; Mej (K) Dato’ M. Kaleessvaran, SLC, MCPF Penang; 6. Representatives from the National Registration Department, Malaysian Archagar Sangam, and Malaysian Hindu Sangam (National and Penang). Participants in this interactive discourse included 68 Temple Chairmen and 45 Temple Management Members from across Penang State. As a quick summary, the Penang State Hindu Sangam, in collaboration with various agencies, successfully organized this event to address key aspects of temple management, security protocols, and crime prevention during religious festivals. Key discussions included: A. Police Guidelines: Emphasis was placed on the importance of law enforcement support for temple activities to ensure public safety; B. A reinforcement of Temples as Cultural Hubs: The role of temples as centers for promoting cultural values and traditions; C. Community Development: The event stressed the need for more programs aimed at uplifting the Hindu community in Penang, with future collaborations planned. All present and primarily the stakeholders are confident that the discussions and insights shared during the event will significantly contribute to the betterment of temple management and the community at large. MCPF Penang is encouraged and look forward to organizing more collaborative programs in the near future.
