
The Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department YDH SAC Puspanathan a/l Wiresingam representing the Chief Police Officer of Penang YDH CP Datuk Hamzah bin Haji Ahmad officiated Town Hall Discussion 2024 with the Theme “Jenayah Dalam Talian, Bersama Mencegahnya” at Dewan Budaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia on 9th December 2024 morning. In attendance were Prof. Dr. Azlan bin Amran, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Industry and Community Networks Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM); Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng, Chairman of MCPF Penang; Assoc. Professor Dr. Azeem Fazwan Ahmad Farouk, Director, Centre for Policy Research (CPR) USM; Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran, Deputy Chairman, MCPF Penang; and, Tuan Mohamad Said. Bin Ibrahim, Deputy Director Student Development Sector, Penang State Education Department. In his speech SAC Puspanathan shared that even though Commercial Crime statistics in Penang had dropped 20% this year, the amount of losses incurred had risen 13.6% to reach RM 187 million. He stressed that everyone has to play their part to raise the awareness of the risk of On-line Crimes. He expressed his hope that this Town Hall Discussion will bring everyone together to fight this new age crime. The *Semak Mule* application developed by the Commercial Crime Investment Department should be utilized as a tool to help the public to verify suspicious accounts or companies prior to transactions.

The Program’s highlight was the sharing of knowledge by the distinguished Panel comprising YDH ACP Rozeni bin Ismail, Penang State PDRM CCID Penang Head of Department; Tuan Mohd Rashdi Hasan, Head of Regulatory Section, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Penang; Tuan Mohd Kamarul Nizam Ab Karim, Manager, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Penang; and, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Dr. P. Sundramoorthy, Assoc. Professor from the Centre for Policy Research, USM as the Moderator. The Program participants benefitted from an interactive talk by ex-PDRM Anti-Scam Ambassador Tuan Rahmat Fitri bin Abdullah who shared his expertise and experiences with regards to On-Line SCAMs. The Program’s audience included Penang State PDRM Heads of Department; OCPDs; PDRM Formasi Heads; Sr. Police Officers; Police Officers and Staff; and Students. The Program was broadcast live over PDRM Penang Facebook. It is hoped that this Town Hall Discussion has been beneficial as a collective effort to fight against Cybercrime.
