This Community Policing Program was successfully launched in 2011 during the long Hari Raya Puasa Festival break. A number of companies in the Perai Free Industrial Zones mooted the idea to support each other in a Community Policing of their Industrial Zones as many of the companies were shut down during the holiday period. The Community Policy Program enabled a heightened awareness of inbound and outbound movements of people as well as vehicular traffic and to be able to ensure that safety and security of the Perai Industrial Zones were maintained throughout the long shut down holiday periods during Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Puasa Holidays. This initiative from the core group of Honeywell, Mattel and SONY multi-national companies covered the initial grouping of 7 companies in 2011. MCPF Penang is indeed proud that its SLC Member Ching Eng Leong has been the driving force behind these ongoing efforts. By 2014 the number of participating companies had already expanded to 29. Currently, close to 40 companies have been incorporated into this program including some new ones from the Batu Kawan (Seberang Perai Selatan) Industrial Zone.
Since the inaugural implementation during Hari Raya Puasa holiday break in 2011 till current – Chinese New Year 2016, there has been a ZERO Crime Rate recorded.
For this year’s Hari Raya Puasa Program, the organizers and participating companies of Perai Free Industrial Zones have been endorsed by Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), Penang Chapter alongside with their partners from the program start up – the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai (SPBP) and the Royal Customs & Excise Department.
