
The Mayor of Penang – The Honorable Dato’ Yew Tung Seang officiated at the Official Launching of “George Town Bandar Selamat (Georgetown Safe City Penang 2030” Billboard at Ballroom 3 & 4 Lexis Suite Hotel, Teluk Kumbar on 3rd November 2018. This Official Launching Ceremony was jointly organized by the Royal Malaysia Police, Penang Contingent; the Penang State Government; City Council of Penang (Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang – MBPP); and Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation, Penang State. Dato’ Yew Tung Seang stated that 767 CCTVs were already installed in Penang Island and that a further 150 more would be additionally installed by 2019. These new High Definition (HD) resolution CCTVs employing big data analytics, Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence would have at least 10 to 15 installed with facial recognition through a system linked with the police. Penang State would look into 3 main aspects to improve city safety i.e. physical environment design, empowering targeted areas and promoting management committee participation to increase public awareness. Penang Chief Police Officer, YDH CP Dato’ Seri A. Thaiveegan highlighted that six printed billboards and eight LED billboards would be placed on the island to reach out to a large and diverse audience for crime prevention awareness. Quick Response (QR) Coded Crime Prevention Posters and Flyers containing police contacts and information would be distributed to tourists.
Also in attendance from MCPF Penang were its Chairman Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Syed Jaafar Syed Ali, MCPF Penang State Liaison Committee Members and Mr. Ben Ho, General Manager of Lexis Suite Hotel. RMP Penang State Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department YDH SAC Dato’ Mohamad Anil Shah were also present. MCPF Penang SLC Members amongst the attendees included Vice-Chairman (II) Rosli Mohamed Ali, Secretary EL Ching, Treasurer Harikumar Katherasen, North-East DLC Chairman JM Tan, South-West DLC Chairman James Mohan (who was also the professional MC for the day), Choo Eng Hin, Yazid bin Razali and ex-Officio YDH Supt. Saw Hock Tek.
